The biggest national talent competition returns for its 13th year and it’s bigger and better than ever before. With a record number of applicants for Drag Idol UK 2016, this year is set to be the biggest competition yet.
The RVT is one of 21 venues hosting this huge competition this year, we are running four heats which culminates in one final to find our representative who will go forward to the national semi finals. Our competition will be hosted by the brilliant and award winning Son of a Tutu who herself is a drag idol winner. Judges will be picked from the wider performance and media industry to help the proceedings along.
We are on the search for talent and we’re looking for great singers, dancers, alternative acts, impressionists, jugglers, groups and musicians! Over the last 14 years Drag Idol UK has proved a huge success, spurning scene stars such as Tanya Hyde, Baga Chipz, Kelly Mild, La Voix, Louis Cyfer, Martha D’Arthur, Son of a Tutu, Kevin Cruise, Topsie Redfern, Crystal D’Canter along with last year’s winner the gorgeous Vileda Moppe. With a resurgence of drag in the last couple of years mainly due to RuPaul’s Drag Race, there’s no better time to grab that wig, slip on those stilettos and show the world what you can do! Don’t forget a couple of our winners got to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, and one was a finalist in RuPaul’s Drag Race search for a UK Ambassador.
The sensational Crystal D’Canter and Kelly Mild return as hosts of this year’s overall Drag Idol competition bringing their talent and wealth of experience to the competition (plus they did such an awesome job last year, we just had to have them back again).
Heats run thru April and May culminating in 3 semi-finals, and a sensational grand final staged at the legendary Two Brewers in Clapham in June. The prizes for our fabulous winner will be a guaranteed paid gig in all of the Drag Idol venues worth a staggering £5250 and bespoke jewellery kindly supplied by Stage Jewels.
Applications can be made via the website www.dragidoluk.co.uk, and keep an eye on our Facebook page and twitter account for news of the upcoming Drag Idol UK App.
