Drag Idol is the U.K.’s biggest drag talent competition and enters its 14th year and 2018 looks set to be the biggest one yet, with a total of 19 venues competing and holding individual heats to find their venue representative to send forward to the UK competition finals.
Drag Idol still remains one of the few competitions on the live scene that can genuinely launch careers on the drag and cabaret circuit and has produced some of the brightest talents on the queer and cabaret scene including La Voix, Louis CyFer, SonofaTutu, Kelly Mild, Danny Beard, Baga Chipz, Martha D’Arthur, Tanya Hyde and last years’ winner; Tracy Barlow to name a few. Even contestants who don’t win have attributed their careers to the exposure that drag Idol bought them.
The competition has developed since its inception and now reflects the diverse LGBTQ+ scene it represents mirroring the diverse, fluid and exciting performances which makes up our queer scene.
