Hollywood legend has it that Joan Crawford stated that the only actress who could portray her correctly was Faye Dunaway, thus in a cruel twist of fate, rich in irony, that is exactly what happens.

Mommie Dearest the iconic film in which Dunaway plays Crawford to chilling effect, depicts the alleged abuse endured by Joan Crawfords adopted children; Christina and Christopher Crawford.

Based on the book by the same name written by Christina Crawford, both the film and book were produced after Crawfords death, which saw both Christina and Christopher disinherited from Crawfords Will. The film became an unintended dark comedy and Paramount, who released the film, changed its advertising to reflect its new camp status by re-naming it ‘Meet the biggest MOTHER of them all!

Dunaway’s insane performance practically channelled Crawford and wire hangers have never been looked at in the same light again.
