What is Sports Day?

Every August bank holiday, since 2007, hundreds of members of the LGBTQ+ community have been flocking to the Sports Day at the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, behind the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, to help to raise money for LGBT HERO. Some of the events include:

Egg and spoon race
Tug of war
Sack Race
50m mince
Drag race relay
Three legged race
Handbag toss
Rhythmic gymnastics (This is the best event!)

What does Sports Day do?
The money raised on Sports Day goes directly to LGBT HERO which helps LGBTQ+ people to lead happier and healthier lives. LGBT HERO does this by offering trusted information and advice while providing various types of support including group, peer and one-to-one support on issues including gender and sexuality, sexual wellbeing, mental wellbeing, feeling suicidal and general health. The issues that affect us the most as a community.

Who are LGBT HERO?

LGBT HERO is the national health and wellbeing charity for LGBTQ+ people supporting over 100,000 people a month with trusted health, advice and various types of support. LGBT HERO’s main aim is to help LGBTQ+ people tackle the health and social inequalities they face while creating a platform for LGBTQ+ people to create personal and social change. We want to create a happier and healthier community for all.

I would like to enter a team.

Great! If you’d like to enter a team for Sports Day you need the following:

At least 5 team members (you can have extra team members as substitutes if you want!)

A team name (be as creative as you want!)

A pledge to raise funds as a team for LGBT HERO – the money raised on the day supports LGBT HERO’s unfunded services.
We will set up your fundraising page for you on the LGBT HERO website

To submit your team, contact sam.killy@lgbthero.org.uk with ‘Sports Day’ in the subject and he will tell you how to set up your fundraising page.
